RESO is deeply committed to reaching out to Canada's talented and diverse pool of racialized filmmakers who have already made their mark in global film markets, both behind and in front of the camera. RESO believes that by exploring, uncovering and understanding what has worked and what has not is critical to developing innovative programs and pathways to showcase Canadian diaspora stories to the world that are aligned with Canada's Creative Export Strategies.

To further enhance our commitment to the global film industry, RESO is proud to announce the launch of our flagship global summit, EXNW (East by Northwest), taking place July 28 - 30. 2023 in Vancouver, British Columbia. This groundbreaking gathering is the first of its kind, designed to bring together racialized creatives and industry leaders worldwide. EXNW will be focused on elevating and celebrating underrepresented creators by stimulating the development of content and partnerships for international markets.

Join RESO at EXNW to connect with a diverse network of trailblazers and pave the way for a more inclusive and dynamic future for media on all screens.

RESO will be outreaching to Canada's racialized filmmakers that have or are working in Global film markets in above and below the line capacity to understand and learn what has been done before, what works and what doesn't. This will involve a national survey and research study to develop programs and pathways to bring Canadian diaspora stories to the world with the intention to align with Canada's Creative Export Strategies.

RESO will also host panels online with high profile filmmakers from global film markets in filmmakers' native languages. Instantaneous translation to English will be provided and audiences from Canada and overseas will be encouraged to attend with the goal of building greater understanding between markets and facilitating partnership projects.

Join us for CREATING CROSS-BORDER CONTENT: How Hudson Yang went from Fresh Off The Boat to Food TV, a conversation and preview screening of the new Paramount+ series ORDER UP WITH HUDSON YANG.

After spending six years of his young life on television portraying an aspiring chef on Fresh Off The Boat, Hudson Yang has dedicated the past two years to culinary classes, restaurant work, and crafting his dream project: ORDER UP WITH HUDSON YANG. This unscripted food adventure takes him across the US and into Asia, learning from masters of haute and humble kitchens, embracing successes and failures, and always persevering.

Join Hudson and his father / fellow executive producer, journalist Jeff Yang, for a candid conversation. They'll delve into the show's origins in Hudson's college application essay, its journey from Asia partners to European platforms, and its upcoming premiere in Canada through Paramount+ on August 17. The discussion will include audience Q&A, followed by a sneak preview screening of an ORDER UP episode.

  • Mr. Yu Wang

    DP, Director

    Yu Wang started his movie career during the 1980s after graduating from Beijing Film Academy. Over the past decades, he has achieved great success principally as Director of Photography. He has collaborated with many prominent Chinese filmmakers, including Lou Ye, Zhang Yang, Tian Zhuangzhuang, Jia Zhangke, Li Yu, Zhang Yibai, Ann Hui, Wuershan, as well as well distinguished ASC cinematographer Richard Bowen on his directorial debut, Cinderella Moon. Yu Wang is a recipient of numerous international accolades, including Best Cinematography at 34th Hong Kong Film Awards in 2015 (The Golden Era), Best Cinematography at the 10th Shanghai International Film Festival in 2007 (The Go Master) and multiple nominations at major film festivals around the world. Yu's work on television commercials is equally impressive. In addition to working with some of China's prolific commercial directors, such as Feng Xiaogang and Jia Zhangke, he has also worked with a number of top Western directors on projects in China and other countries, clients including Olay, Coca-Cola, Volkswagen, Lenovo, and China Mobile. Yu Wang is conversant in English. He is actively seeking creative and challenging projects, domestically and abroad.

  • Shan Tam

    Producer

    Shan Tam is a multiple award-winning producer who has been active in film and television on both sides of the Pacific. Her work has been honoured with a Sundance award, Gemini, Genie, Leos and Canadian Screen Award along with considerable international recognition.
    Ms Tam has been actively producing in China for over a decade. She has shot several mini-series for American television with a large international cast and crew in this fastest growing market. A solid working relationship with Asian producers afforded Tam the opportunity to produce two feature co-productions between Canada and Hong Kong, as well as a China-Australian coproduction. Her projects have taken her to numerous countries in Europe, Asia, North and Central America, working extensively with world class crew from the East and West.

    In recent years, Ms Tam has produced a number of well known Chinese language films, including the huge box office hit Finding Mr. Right 1& 2. She co-produced an epic action film “Thousand Faces of Dunja” with prolific producer Tsui Hark and legendary director Yuen Wo Ping. Along with Alex Law, she produced renowned director Mabel Cheung’s period drama “Tale of Three Cities “. Her recent work is a sci-fi feature “Shanghai Fortress” with director Teng Hua Tao and “Lost in Russia” with director/actor Xu Zheng. (as part of the trilogy of “Lost in Thailand” and “Lost in Hong Kong”, both were box office sensation.)

    Over the years, Tam has provided production services to dozens of international film productions shooting in Canada, including Jackie Chan’s blockbuster Rumble in the Bronx; Cory Yuen and Andy Lau’s Saviour of the Soul II; and Yuen Wo-Ping’s In the Line of Duty IV starring Donnie Yen. She also extended her production services for hit TV series such as Jade Buddha; One Meter Sunlight; and Love Memories.

    A well-respected filmmaker in both Canada and China, Tam has been invited to sit on juries for various international awards and funds. She has given talks on numerous panels, seminars and coproduction meetings.

    Ms. Tam was on the board of directors with Creative BC, a provincial government cultural agency. She is a past board member of Women in Film and Video Vancouver and the Vancouver Film and Television Artist Society.

  • Van K Yang

    Indie Filmmaker/Director

    楊崗 Van YANG is a Chinese-American writer, director, and cinematographer. He’s been based in China since 2008, participating in a National Geographic co-production documentary about environmental sustainability. Van’s projects/clients include lululemon, Audi, Lenovo, Alibaba, Tencent, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Destination Canada, and the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City.
